Shadow Editions publishes experimental books that provoke a rethinking of art, society and contemporary culture. Founded by artist and writer Michael Lindsey Davison, Shadow Editions engages the art book format as a vehicle for social and cultural critique.
Shadow Editions publications have featured in various Australian book fairs including Museum of Contemporary Art’s Book Fair (2018); Festival of the Photocopier (2018); Bound Apart at Rae & Bennett (2013); and One for the Books at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale (2013). Artwork from Shadow Editions publications have featured in i-D, The Lifted Brow and Fragmented. Works have also been featured in exhibitions including Self Made: Zines and Artist Books (State Library of Victoria, 2017-2018); Contagion (Trocadero Art Space, 2018); and Australasia Now (Brunswick St Gallery, 2018).
Shadow Editions’ philosophy is to focus on conceptual depth in each publication. In published works the artist/s maintain creative control over every element of production, including typography, materials, writing, editing, design and layout.
