Various Unfinished Projects is a collaboration between author B. D. Reeves and Michael Lindsey Davison, exploring our absurd, humorous and deeply human connection to ‘things’.
In the tradition of found art, the book assembles a collection of found advertise-ments of unfinished projects displayed as if in a gallery, revealing beneath the surface of commerce a hidden language of deep confession and expressions of love, remorse, and the pain of ‘breaking up’.
In a philosophical dialogue at the end, the writers shed light on the meaning of the work, drawing on Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology of Perception, and Deleuze & Guattari’s concept of material agency.
In the authors’ own words: “The stories in this book, however humorous and ironic they are, expressed in copy for Ebay and Gumtree, tell us so much about how our lives are lived in and through things.”
